Project Overview

This project presents a filter coffee machine based on the classic brewing system, developed within a third-year design studio course. Designed to accompany the user's morning routine, the product offers a practical and intuitive experience, with features that preserve heat and prioritize usability. Functionally, the system operates by heating water in the rear reservoir, which is then directed through the ground coffee in the filter compartment and gradually drips into the lower carafe. A metal hot plate beneath the carafe keeps the brewed coffee warm for extended enjoyment. According to technical drawings, the product measures approximately 350 mm in height, 202 mm in width, and 220 mm in depth—dimensions optimized for countertop use while maintaining compact efficiency. The overall design language features rounded yet sharply defined edges, striking a balance between sculptural character and domestic friendliness. The silhouette is composed of clean vertical and horizontal surfaces softened by curved transitions, giving the product a contemporary yet approachable feel. The control panel is designed for clear, intuitive interaction, allowing the brewing process to be monitored and adjusted with ease. Material-wise, the outer shell is envisioned in injection-molded ABS plastic—a durable yet cost-effective material commonly used in kitchen appliances. The finish is matte or lightly textured to enhance both cleanliness and tactile quality. The form is optimized for symmetrical mold production, making it feasible and efficient to manufacture at scale. This filter coffee machine is not only a functional appliance, but also a thoughtful domestic object that merges ergonomic use, formal clarity, and production-ready logic.
