Designed in response to Cassina's approaching centennial, Le Cento pays homage not only to the brand's modernist heritage, but also to the philosophical legacy of Le Corbusier — a designer who sought to bring order, clarity, and purpose to every aspect of daily life. Inspired by this vision, Le Cento reinterprets the act of sitting as a modular, intentional ritual. The structure is built around a visible frame made from industrial-grade aluminum alloy, including 30mm hollow pipes, 10mm solid bars, and precision-cut 10mm sheet components. These define the geometric skeleton, offering strength, lightness, and a timeless aesthetic grounded in rational design. Within this frame lies the upholstered seat and cushions, made from bouclé fabric and molded wool. Bouclé provides a soft, tactile surface with its looped texture, available in a carefully selected range of colors inspired by natural tones — soil, rust, sky, and foliage. Molded wool, formed through heat and pressure, offers both structural integrity and comfort, eliminating the need for a rigid inner core. One side of the chair features a wide, integrated armrest that functions as a platform for modular trays, each supporting a different personal ritual. These trays are crafted using bamboo laminate for a warm, modern feel, or agrifiber board — a lightweight, sustainable material made from agricultural waste. The trays can be easily swapped to support different uses: a whiskey set with dedicated compartments, a slanted reading tray, or a flat surface for everyday essentials. Balancing function and form, Le Cento offers a private moment within a composed structure — a seat not only for rest, but for ritual. It is a contemporary interpretation of Cassina's century-long commitment to design that endures, evolves, and responds to how we live.
